Digital literacy as a strategic advantage

Interview with Stefan Clements

It was great to sit down with Stefan Clements of Worldwide Fruits in the buildup to Manufacturing Digitalisation Summit.

We discussed three of the key topics of the summit namely: the role data is playing within modern manufacturing organisations and how to extract meaningful insights from it. The role of reskilling and upskilling, and whether it’s now more important than recruitment and how digital technology is being integrated within legacy systems.

“Digital transformation isn’t just about implementing new technologies it’s about empowering people to use them effectively. There’s a crucial balance between upskilling teams in digital and data literacy, and ensuring our systems are intuitive enough to reduce the training burden.”

— Stefen Clements, Worldwide Fruit

Manufacturers like Worldwide Fruits are showing that digital transformation isn’t just about installing new technology, it’s about making data meaningful, systems accessible, and people empowered. By modernising infrastructure, centralising data, and focusing on intuitive tools alongside targeted upskilling, they’re laying the groundwork for AI and future innovations. As Stefan puts it, it’s not about having good data, it’s about helping people see its value in their day-to-day work. That’s where the real transformation begins.
